A pair of wooden posts help hold up the fence of the horse pasture in this continuation of the Around Home in Spring 2025 series.
When we built all the fences around our property, we learned a lot about how to do it, which included some wooden posts every now and then to help keep tension on the fence wire. Plus, the wooden posts are a bit more photogenic than the thinner metal posts.
Looking into the woods from the edge of the trees in the woodlands of Tennessee. This is the latest in a series of photos from Around Home in Spring 2025. I decided to make a tag for them to make them all easier to find. And I may have one or two others to share, too.
A purple hydrangea blossom stands out against the green leaves in the background. This photo is a direct follow-up to the Rose in Spring posted recently, from the Around Home in Spring 2025 series.
We have had this hydrangea plant in our yard for a few years, but this is the best year yet that it has had. The purple color is magnificent, and I am looking forward to seeing the plant grow and bloom more.
A rose in the spring after a rain in our front yard. The color of these roses always stands out to me, so I wanted to make sure it stands out in this photo.
I had mentioned in the About the Photo section of the previous post that I recently took some new photos around our house, and this is one of those. These roses are always good photo subjects, and I decided to give this one a different look. You can read more about that in the About the Photo section of this post below.
Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS streaks across the night sky, as seen from our front porch.
Several others have posted photos of this comet with a very long name on social media and elsewhere lately, so I decided to jump on the bandwagon and take my own photo, too. I am not always a bandwagon jumper, but I decided to be for this occasion.
Who knew that the 2024 Eclipse would not be the only extreme weather event of the day?
After the eclipse ended, the clouds of the morning returned, and those clouds eventually brought with them a strong thunderstorm that included lots of hail at our house. Take a look:
All that white stuff in the grass is hail. Lots and lots of hail. In the past when we have had any hail, it has just been small bits for only 30 seconds maximum. This time around, we got large hail for around five minutes.
I don’t know if you heard, but we had a solar eclipse here in the United States in April 2024. If you are in the United States, I do not know how you could NOT have heard about it, because it was everywhere, especially if you were within a hundred miles or so of the path of totality as we were.
I had resolved not to try to take any photos of the eclipse, knowing that they would look very similar to the photos from the 2017 eclipse (spoiler alert - it looked just about exactly the same, except the sun was slightly more covered)
On January 14 and 15, 2024, we got some snow. Lots of snow, actually. I took some preliminary measurements while the snow was still falling, but I never did go back and do a final measurement, but I would guess that we got around 5 to 6 inches of snow. And then we had some really cold weather after the snow, so that the snow has stayed on the ground for several days. It is actually still here at the time of this writing.
Recently, the trees in our yard were changing to their autumn colors for the fall season, and so on a nice, sunny day I went out to get a few photos. Take a look!
This pear tree still had some green leaves left toward the inside, but the outer leaves were bright red. Add in a perfect blue sky and you have quite a colorful photo!
The other night, we went for a walk as the sun was setting, and it was an adventure. I did not have my camera with me, but I did have my phone. So here are some photos from our evening.
Sunset Views Even before we had started walking, as I was still tying my shoes, Laura said, “Look at the sky!” And when I turned around after making sure my shoes were double-knotted (can’t have them coming untied while we walk, after all), the above was what I saw. It was definitely worth getting my phone out to capture the scene, wouldn’t you agree? I say it often around here at the Burnsland website, but I am constantly amazed by the beauty of God’s creation. This was yet another example of that.
