Sunset and Palm Tree in Hawaii

Sunset and Palm Tree in Hawaii

A palm tree is silhouetted against the sunset sky in the Ko Olina resort area in Hawaiʻi, as seen on one of our evening walks during our Hawaiʻi 2023 trip. Each evening, around the time that the sun was setting, we would go for a walk along the Ko Olina lagoons. We would start at Aulani, walk to the end of the walkway (or until we reached the end of the lighted part if it was dark), and then walk back.
Anniversary Trip to Hawaii and Aulani

Anniversary Trip to Hawaii and Aulani

The View A nighttime view of the Aulani resort and the surrounding Ko Olina area in Hawaiʻi, as seen during our 30th anniversary trip. For our 30th anniversary, we wanted to do something special. As you may recall, we took a trip to the Hawaiian island of Kauaʻi for our 25th anniversary. Why not do something similar, but visit a different island? And why not go with friends? The Riedels’ 30th anniversary is just a couple of months before ours. So we all decided to take a trip together.
Michelangelo and Casey Jones in Memphis

Michelangelo and Casey Jones in Memphis

As you gaze upon the title of this post, you may be pondering, “What in the world do Michelangelo and Casey Jones have to do with each other?” The answer to that question is simple: Not much. Yes, they were both characters in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but that has nothing to do with our story today. We came across both the famous artist and the famous engineer in one day, very close in distance to each other. Read on to find out more!
VW Beetle in Cozumel Mexico

VW Beetle in Cozumel Mexico

A Volkswagen Beetle is parked by the side of the road in Cozumel, Mexico, as seen during a stop on our 2022 Disney Cruise. You may already know that Beetles are popular in Mexico. Even though I know that, I still always enjoy seeing them, and I have tried to capture one on each of our two visits. You can see another VW Beetle in the post Street Views in Mexico from our 2016 cruise. That one was in Progresso, while the one pictured here was in Cozumel.
Cheyenne Bottoms in Kansas

Cheyenne Bottoms in Kansas

Cheyenne Bottoms near Great Bend, Kansas, is a large marsh habitat that provides a stopping place for migrating birds on the Central Flyway bird migration route. I took this moody-looking photo during our visit in April 2023. As you might guess from the name, Cheyenne Bottoms is a low area right in the middle of the Kansas plains. The entire Cheyenne Bottoms takes up 41,000 acres. Over 19,000 acres are the Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area, while another 7,300 acres are managed by The Nature Conservancy.
A Sunset Walk Is an Adventure

A Sunset Walk Is an Adventure

The other night, we went for a walk as the sun was setting, and it was an adventure. I did not have my camera with me, but I did have my phone. So here are some photos from our evening. Sunset Views Even before we had started walking, as I was still tying my shoes, Laura said, “Look at the sky!” And when I turned around after making sure my shoes were double-knotted (can’t have them coming untied while we walk, after all), the above was what I saw. It was definitely worth getting my phone out to capture the scene, wouldn’t you agree? I say it often around here at the Burnsland website, but I am constantly amazed by the beauty of God’s creation. This was yet another example of that.
Falmouth, Jamaica from Above

Falmouth, Jamaica from Above

A view of Falmouth, Jamaica, as seen from the top deck of the Disney Fantasy cruise ship during our 2022 Disney Cruise. If you read the Sailing Away from Jamaica portion of our cruise trip report, you know that we ended up waiting a while for the ship to leave the port. If you haven’t read it, go ahead. I will wait. Apparently, I am good at it.
Disney Fantasy Verandah View

Disney Fantasy Verandah View

Looking out at the blue water of the Caribbean from our stateroom verandah on the Disney Fantasy during our 2022 Disney Cruise. Every morning during our cruise, one of the first things I would do after waking up was to wonder where I was. After my mind had cleared enough for me to remember that we were on a cruise, the second thing I would do was to go outside on our verandah and have a look. On some mornings, the ship had already reached the port for the day. On other mornings, such as this one, we were still sailing toward our destination. I would stand out there on the verandah and just watch the water as we were sailing along.
Peering at a Grand Cayman Pier

Peering at a Grand Cayman Pier

Peering at a pier in George Town, Grand Cayman, as seen during our 2022 Disney Cruise. During our stop in Grand Cayman, I was looking for interesting things to photograph, as I always do in new places. We found a small beach, and that beach had some nice views of the cruise ships that were anchored out in the harbor. As I was taking photos of the ships, I decided to include this pier in one of the photos.
