Interesting Tree in Wichita, Kansas

Interesting Tree in Wichita, Kansas

An interesting tree grows in Central Riverside Park in Wichita, Kansas, as seen during our Easter 2023 visit. We had gone to Kansas to visit Jaylin over the Easter weekend. However, he had to work some, so Laura and I went off exploring on our own. We went to check out the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit, and after we had seen the animals there, we spent a little time walking around Central Riverside Park, which is the home of the exhibit.

Along the Santa Fe Trail in Great Bend, Kansas

A marker placed by the Daughters of the American Revolution marks the location of the Santa Fe Trail in Great Bend, Kansas. Over the Easter weekend, we took another trip to Kansas to visit Jaylin. As is our custom, we looked for some interesting things to see while we were there. Of course, we are interested in history, so what interests us might not interest you. If not, just keep clicking.
It's Laura's Birthday!

It's Laura's Birthday!

This lovely girl has another birthday! That’s right, it is Laura’s birthday once again! Happy birthday to my beautiful wife! I won’t say what her age is, but the numbers are sometimes preceded by the name of a tropical island state. But age is not important. It is just a number. What is more important is getting to spend another year with someone special. Here’s hoping this birthday is the start of another great year!
Boot Hill in Dodge City, Kansas

Boot Hill in Dodge City, Kansas

Looking out at Dodge City, Kansas, from the top of the original location of the Boot Hill Cemetery, as seen during our 2022 Dodge City trip. A cowboy statue marks the location, along with a monument celebrating some of Dodge City’s famous residents. The name “Boot Hill” has become something of legend over the years, as a few different places like to claim its origin. You can find Boot Hill Cemeteries in Deadwood, South Dakota, and Tombstone, Arizona (which uses the “Boothill” spelling). And several other places, too.
Poinciana Tree in Mexico

Poinciana Tree in Mexico

A poinciana tree reaches out over a street in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico, as seen during our 2022 Disney Cruise. When the Disney Fantasy docked in Cozumel during our cruise, we did not have any plans besides exploring some of the town. So we disembarked the ship and went for a walk to see what we could see. During our walk, we kept seeing trees with bright orange flowers. Because of their color, the trees were quite an attention-grabber. And for me, attention-grabbers mean photo grabbers. So of course, I grabbed my camera and took a few photos.
Walt Disney World Swan in Black and White

Walt Disney World Swan in Black and White

The Walt Disney World Swan hotel is seen across the water in this view from our July 2022 Florida trip. During our trip, we took an afternoon to visit the Epcot Resorts, as we often do. As you might notice from this photo, some clouds came up, and they were rather serious-looking clouds, too. As you might guess, those clouds did bring us some rain, too. We did not get too wet, so it was all good. What would Florida be without a bit of liquid sunshine, after all?
Serenity Bay Beach and Spring Thoughts

Serenity Bay Beach and Spring Thoughts

At the Beach It looks like a beautiful day at Serenity Bay Beach on Castaway Cay, the Disney Cruise Line’s Bahamas island. No, we are not at the beach right now, although that certainly does sound nice. This was a view from our 2022 Disney Cruise. Those were good times. But now is a good time, too. We can’t all always be on vacation, after all. Some stuff like work has to be done from time to time so that there can be more adventures in the future. Good things will come in time.
A Spring Break Walk in the Park

A Spring Break Walk in the Park

Spring break has once again come and gone. It had its ups and its downs. But let’s not focus on the downs, shall we? Let’s just remember the good times! Jaylin got to come home for most of the week. Last year, his spring break did not line up with Laura’s spring break, so it was nice to have everything in the same week this year. And the Riedel kids all had the same break, too, so we got to spend time with Katie, Zach, and Leah as well. Here is a memory, with the top photo by Karen and the bottom photo by me:
Welcome to Adventures by Burnsland

Welcome to Adventures by Burnsland

Welcome to Adventures by Burnsland! This new site is an extension of the original Burnsland.com site. Here you will find photos and stories of our new adventures, as well as some memories from our previous adventures, too. Why the change? There are several reasons for this change. One reason is site speed. The old Burnsland site was created with Wordpress. Wordpress is great for a lot of things, but for me it had become a bit much. And Wordpress takes a good bit of computing work, too. For example, when you click on a Wordpress link, the system has to go grab all of the different parts - header, graphics, content, footer, sidebar stuff, and whatever else - and smush all of that into one file to be sent to you and shown on your screen. Every time you click a new link, it has to go through that page creation process again and then show the to you. Plus, I had added a good bit of add-ons to try to make the whole experience better and also faster. Yes, there are ways to force Wordpress to build a page cache and serve you a static page, but that takes a bit of work, too.
