Silver Springs Sea Hunt Deck

We visited Silver Springs State Park during our October 2023 Florida Trip. While we were there, we found a wonderful view of the water from The Sea Hunt Deck.

The view of the crystal clear spring water and the Silver River from the Sea Hunt Deck is rather amazing. As with the rest of the park, this area was quiet and uncrowded. There was almost a lazy atmosphere, so that we did not feel like we had to rush from one place to the next. Occasionally, a kayaker or two would float by, breaking the stillness for a moment, but soon everything would return to what you see here.

We took some time to enjoy the view from there, imagining that the scene must have been the same throughout many generations. Except for the wooden structure of the observation deck, of course, which was a more recent addition.

And if you are wondering about the name…

The Sea Hunt Deck at Silver Springs State Park in Florida

The Sea Hunt Deck was named for the television show “Sea Hunt” starring Lloyd Bridges, which filmed many of its water scenes at Silver Springs. The show was a little bit before my time, as it aired in the 1950s, two decades before I began walking the earth. However, if I had been around at that time, I could definitely see myself watching a show about the adventures of a diver fighting crime, solving mysteries, and hunting for treasure.

You can find the episodes out there online without too much difficulty. Even though the show is set in California, you might often see scenes that have a definite Florida feel to them.

The deck was not specifically used in the show, by the way; it was only named after the show. But it is a great reminder of one of the many parts of the past of Silver Springs.

Not Getting Younger

I am not a diver. I don’t mind being in the water, as you might guess from all of our different beach trips, but diving underwater for extended lengths of time is not really my thing.

I am still not sure what my thing is. I was talking with a friend recently about riding bicycles, and someone else overheard and asked if I ride. I do not. But on those rare occasions when I do, I get winded pretty quickly, because I am not used to riding anymore. When I was growing up, I used to ride my bicycle all over the neighborhood. Now, my legs start to rebel against me if I ride half a mile.

Some of that is due to lack of practice, but I am starting to think that another reason is age. I can see that some things are not quite as easy as they were 10, 20, or 30 years ago.

But that is okay, because God has still blessed me with plenty that I can do. And I am sure that he has blessed you in the same way.

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart, my portion forever. - Psalm 73:26 CSV

About the Photos

When I looked back at photos from that 2023 Florida trip, I was surprised to find that I had not posted more of those photos. I suppose at that time I still had lots of photos from our Hawaii trip to share, and the Florida photos got lost in the shuffle.

I consider these photos to have a slightly rustic look, or at least that was the look that I was going for. If this is not that kind of look, let me down gently.
