Fall Creek Falls Overlook

Fall Creek Falls Overlook

Looking out from the overlook over Fall Creek Falls Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee. From this angle, and in a two-dimensional photograph, it is difficult to judge the size of the waterfalls here. So I suggest you see the previous Fall Creek Falls post that includes photos from the bottom of the falls to help you get a better feeling of the size of these falls.
Cocoa Beach From the Ocean

Cocoa Beach From the Ocean

Looking at Cocoa Beach, Florida, from out in the water at Lori Wilson Park on a beautiful day. Sometimes it is good to get a different view of things. I have lots of photos of the ocean from standing on the beach. But I do not have as many photos of the beach from standing in the ocean. I do take photos like this from time to time, but not all that often.
Polynesian Village Resort Boat Dock in the Evening

Polynesian Village Resort Boat Dock in the Evening

The boat dock at the Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World stands between the sandy beach and a cloud-filled sky. Whenever we are at the Polynesian Village Resort, we look forward to some time to sit in a swing on the beach and enjoy the view. No, we do not stay at the resort, we just drop by when we are in the area.
Going Out to the Beach at Cocoa Beach

Going Out to the Beach at Cocoa Beach

The view from walking out to the beach at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach, Florida This view is always a favorite of mine. Except when I am looking back over my shoulder as we are leaving the beach. Then the view is not quite as nice. But even then, the view is a reminder of a good day at the beach.
Inside the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Visitor Center

Inside the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Visitor Center

During our stop at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park near Hodgenville, Kentucky, we took some time to go inside the Visitor Center. It had a few interesting items on display and a small gift shop. And air conditioning, which was much appreciated on the day of our visit. Yes, although this post is titled Inside the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Visitor Center, this photo was actually taken outside, because that is where the sign was located. We did not spend too much time looking at the exhibits because we had arrived late in the day and wanted to have enough time to see everything, but we did look around for a few minutes.
Abraham Lincoln Birthplace in Kentucky

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace in Kentucky

On a trip through Kentucky, we visited Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park south of Hodgenville to see where our 16th president was born. The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace features a log cabin inside a marble Memorial Building on the site of the farm where Lincoln was born. The structure is on top of a hill, which makes it look even more imposing. While perhaps not quite as large as the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, this site was actually built first, leading to its alternate name of The First Lincoln Memorial.
National Corvette Museum in Kentucky

National Corvette Museum in Kentucky

As we were traveling through Kentucky with the Riedels, we spent an afternoon at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. Why is the Corvette Museum in Kentucky, you might ask? Because it is right across the street from the plant where all the Corvettes are made. As you might guess, the National Corvette Museum is full of Corvettes, and a few other cars, too. Yes, I did take photos of just about every car in the museum. No, I probably will not share every single one of them. But in this first post, here are a couple of highlights.
Cave Tour at Mammoth Cave National Park

Cave Tour at Mammoth Cave National Park

We visited Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky and went on a cave tour. We were traveling through Kentucky on our way home from Indiana with the Riedels, and stopping at a National Park seemed like a great idea to everyone. Here are a few scenes from our tour. Did you really visit a National Park if you did not take a park sign photo to prove that you were there? Yes you did, but I took a photo anyway.1
Angel Mounds State Historic Site in Indiana

Angel Mounds State Historic Site in Indiana

During a trip through Indiana, Laura and I stopped at Angel Mounds State Historic Site near Evansville, Indiana. Here is some of what we saw. As you might guess, we went to Angel Mounds to see mounds, and we were not disappointed in that. There are twelve mounds there, although the largest by far is the mound pictured above, known as Mound A. Mound A is around 600 feet long by 400 feet wide, and is almost 40 feet tall at its highest point. The mounds were built by people of the Mississippian culture between 1000 A.D. and 1450 A.D., so these mounds have been around for a long time.
Covered Bridge in Roann, Indiana

Covered Bridge in Roann, Indiana

A covered bridge crosses the Eel river in Roann, Indiana, as seen during a June 2024 visit. The bridge was built in 1877, according to the sign, and still has traffic to this day. I would assume (and hope) that not all of the wood is original, but that does not make the bridge any less interesting to see.
